INOV has begun activity in the 1st of January 2001, in the process of restructuring of INESC, being an institution of innovative characteristics that congregates the assets and potential of the previous Electronics and Telecommunications area of activity of INESC in Lisbon. The collaborators' of INOV, highly qualified and motivated, exist to help managing innovation in the enterprise and institutional markets. Its associated partners are INESC and INESC ID.

INESC - Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores (Institute of Systems and Computer Engineering), created in 1980, gave an enormous contribution for a new positioning in the relationship between Universities and Industry in Portugal. Through innovative forms of organisation and by stimulating the creation of technological based companies, INESC has introduced in Portugal a model since then reused in numerous initiatives in the universe of research and development at the national level.

In accordance with the orientations defined by the General Assembly of INESC, in May 1998, the restructuring of the organisation was defined and implemented, with the creation of institutions specialised in the several economy sectors and in agreement with geographical location. The resources and other corresponding assets of the base institution, INESC, were transferred to each one of the newly institutions.

From this process have already began activity (and constitute the total institutions to be launched): INOV, LINK Consulting, INESC ID LISBOA, INESC PORTO, INESC MACAU, INESC COIMBRA and INESC MICROSISTEMAS e NANOTECNOLOGIAS.

Only with the proper knowledge and accumulated experience of the technology and markets is it possible to innovate together with our partners in the various business opportunities.
INOV associates its experience and methodology of project coordination to the analysis of market opportunities with its partners. Based on the present structure of resident knowledge in INOV, it presents conditions to form appropriate partnerships to each economic sector, maintaining the value chain from applied research, project development, pilot projects, to the supply of systems and solutions.

INOV has acquired, for 20 years and within INESC, technological competences and knowledge in large projects management, projects in consortium and projects in international partnerships.

INOV also constitutes an important tool for the creation of technology base companies, by means of creation of spin-offs in partnership with other actors from the economic tissue, already accounting with several cases of success in the past.

We continuously bet in the people, in the technology and in several competences, and our partners are very important assets in the processes of creation of value.

INOV is the result of a large strategic restructuring process initiated by INESC in 1998, with a main focus in the launch of new specialised organisations by area and type of activity.
