INOV is the result of a large strategic restructuring process initiated by INESC in 1998, with a main focus in the launch of new specialised organisations by area and type of activity. In this way, it is expected to improve and better adapt the offer of the whole organisation to the present market needs.

In this process, INOV has incorporated within its structure an important part of the previous Electronics and Telecommunications Area of INESC in Lisbon. This has given INOV the professional recognition of the entrepreneurial market of unique technological know-how, as a result of the activities in technology transfer to existing or newly created companies.

Considering the above, INOV is the largest technological infrastructure in Portugal in the areas of Information Technologies, Electronics and Communications, incorporating an important asset coming from many realisations and synergies developed in its incubation environment - INESC. INOV initiates formally its activities on the 1st of January, 2001, as a private non-for profit organisation.

INOV has a flexible and agile organisation, aiming at the creation of technological competencies and establishment of cooperation links with the various economic actors (Universities, Industries, Companies, Telecommunications Operators). These objectives imply the development of activities in the frontier University-Companies, based on a solid cooperation with the University to offer sustainable, consistent and innovative solutions to the problems and challenges faced by our partners.

We believe that INOV, while technological partner, will help companies in their search for new business opportunities, through the development of innovative technological solutions with a high added value, crucial to the creation of perceived advantages that pave the way to high degrees of competitiveness, also giving tools to pro-actively participate in the social and economical development.

INOV has begun activity in the 1st of January 2001, in the process of restructuring of INESC, being an institution of innovative characteristics that congregates the assets and potential of the previous Electronics and Telecommunications area of activity of INESC in Lisbon.
