EGNOS
Navigation Terminals Project
In the scope
of program ARTS 9 of ESA (European Space Agency) is running project
"EGNOS Navigation Terminals", with the objective to develop
a demonstrator of a commercial product for the user community and
ready to be marketed.
The project under development is led by MAN Technologie AG, with
the participation of ViCon Engineering GmbH and INOV. Vicon's responsibility
goes as far as the EGNOS receiver and INOV is responsible for the
development and industrialisation of the navigation terminals for
the maritime segment (Maritime Terminal Chartplotter), for the terrestrial
segment (Farming Terminal) and a unit for test and diagnosis (System
Test Terminal) for storage and analysis of the values measured in
the receiver system.
Project EGNOS is close to the conclusion of the 1st phase, where
laboratory prototypes will show the main navigation and test functions.
The
EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Services) system,
in the scope of the GNSS-1 (Global Navigation Satellite System),
uses data coming from the GPS and GLONASS satellite positioning
systems, and together with differential correction information from
terrestrial stations gives better accuracy and integrity.
