In 1986, INEM (National Institute
for Medical Emergency) together with INOV (at that time,
INESC), developed an emergency communications system for
Portuguese motorways.

In
1988, a new, completely digital modular version named SIT
(Sistema Integrado de Telecomunicações - Integrated
Telecommunications System) was developed, leading to performance
improvements. Later it was registered under the name TELIS.
The product and associated technologies have been transferred
to a company SETCOM, which presently commercialise the system.
The Portuguese motorway operator Brisa uses TELIS in several
main routes. |
