Project RACE - Technology for ATD

The fundamental objectives of the Project "Technology for ATD" of the RACE program were to study and implement various subsystems of an experimental broadband network based on ATM or ATD (Asynchronous Time Division), as well as to specify and develop common components to be used in different network subsystems, including a set of integrated circuits and generic hardware/software modules. This was the largest project of Phase I of the RACE programme, involving thirty-two European companies, including the largest industrial companies and several European research institutes and Universities: Philips Communication Systems, Netherlands; Laboratoire de Electronique, Philips, France; Alcatel Telecom Norway, Norway; Jydsk Telefon, Denmark; Research Institute of the Deutsche Bundespost Telekom, Germany; Alcatel Bell, Belgium. The project ran from January 1988 to November 1993.
