Networks and Quality of Service

The INOV activity in communications networks and QoS includes several sub-areas, namely, development of systems and equipment for telecommunications, audit and special technical consultancy in the area of communications networks as well as advanced training. Experience of developing software for telecommunications systems and equipment using advanced methods for specifying, testing and validation of software, participation in various large and medium-sized projects for leading national and international telecommunications enterprises, enabled us to acquire technology in the areas of communications dedicated to voice and data, ISDN, ATM, concentrators and digital multiplexers for switching and IP networks (wired and wireless) with Quality of Service. We also have experience in transmission of video information across networks of this type, including codification and distribution of video, which in 2005 was treated as an independent direction.

Know-how acquired during the development of communications systems and equipment supported INOV in entering into the market of specialised technical consultancy on networks, communications and security, targeting at operators, telecommunications system/equipment manufacturers and companies with medium- or large-size communications networks. We focus on the design and implementation of the network architecture, infrastructure design, consulting, planning and implementation of the communications networks (WAN/LAN and WWAN / WLAN), taking into account the specific business requirements and their evolution, available budget and technological developments; audit of the network management, analysis of the management model; QoS assessment, and even the advanced training and know-how transfer.

The combination of know-how acquired in networks and telecommunications systems, information systems and telecommunications applications made the security informatics a strategic area in which our knowledge turned out to be particularly effective.

Currently specialised technic consultancy is the main activity in this area, especially:

  • Decision making support: interpretation of the results and recommendations of audits, helping the client to define a solution and analyse the various solutions proposed by the market.
  • Audit: is based on the intrusion tests involving the detection and analysis of vulnerabilities, yielded by the client's system, and concludes by a set of concrete measures to achieve the security level desired by the client.
  • Designing solutions for intrusion detection: based on the audit results and the client needs, we define a solution enabling an intrusion (or an intrusion attempt) to be detected as soon as possible by the client's infrastructure.
  • Audit and consultancy in the area of communications: for the banking sector at the Communications Centre and Backbone level, following the rules of international organisations acting in the networking area, including: Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), Uptime Institute, Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI ) and TM-Forum.

In the area of Video Encoding and Distribution we intend to develop and endogenise innovative and competitive technologies, systems and solutions in the area of speech communications, with special emphasis on data distribution in IP networks regardless of their type: local area networks (LAN), wireless networks (WLAN), public Internet, private networks or mobile networks (GSM, GPRS and UMTS).
In this context the main activities are the platform development, integration systems, providing solutions and technical consultancy.

INOV is developing various solutions and platforms for the audio/video distribution over IP networks, which allows responding to the broad spectrum of problems and paradigms inherent in this technology. The most distinguished solutions for audio/video distribution, available for corporate/local (Intranets, LAN) and public (Internet, PSTN, GPRS) networks and customisable for different markets and applications, are:
  • Broadcasting of cultural and sport events - Personalised dissemination of multiple news and contents attributed to a specified event, using the Internet as a distribution medium;
  • Video surveillance - Applications for business and personal surveillance using local or public networks, allowing a range of services such as intrusion detection, illegal access registration, alarming, etc.
  • Tele-Medicine - local or remote monitoring of the patient's status with the possibility of combining video camera observations with the measurements of medical instruments linked with the patient.
