Being an inheritor of the pioneer collaboration between INESC and DGPA (Direcção-Geral das Pescas e Aquicultura, General Directorate for Fisheries and Aquaculture of Portugal), INOV was recently appointed responsible for providing the Integrated Control Centre, corresponding to a new generation of the MONICAP Control Centre, both in terms of the imaging potential and integration of multiple information systems and new means of communications.

INOV is renewing the national park of MONICAP boxes, having developed for this purpose the 5-th generation of the product. This is a worldwide groundbreaking model from viewpoint of both the communication capacities (parallel multiple-media support) and location technology (using European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service). This new generation of MONICAP boxes already embraces the results of cooperation between INOV and ESA (European Space Agency) in developing a terminal for maritime navigation using the innovative European navigation technology GNSS-1.
