The project "Waste Water Treatment Improvement and Efficiency in Small Communities" was carried out as a part of the European Commission Environment-LIFE Programme. The primary objective was

• to monitor and control the whole process of waste water treatment, making it more efficient,

• to solve the problems of RWTS (Residual Water Treatment Station) maintenance and operation, and

• to provide decision-support resources for the control centre by introduction of electronic information
systems at the RWTS and MWSS (Municipal Water and Sanitation Services) structural levels.

The pilot project will be implemented in three RWTS in the Sintra district under coordination of MWSS of Sintra.
