Open Source Software (OSS)

The emergence and affirmation of the Open Source Software paradigm opened new prospects for business solutions and information systems as well as for the methods their development, maintenance and support. Among other features and peculiarities, the model allows, in certain situations, to take an advantage of scaling in the solution adaptation, that is, to provide unlimited set of users at the same development cost, preserving the possibility of making changes or new developments within the framework of the same solution. From the perspective of the developer communities, it is guaranteed that every development participant is working for free will in the area of his interest, according to his qualification.

Being a non-profit organisation for technology development and transfer, INOV cannot miss these new opportunities. In the context of our activity, the target is contributing to massive utilization of the information technologies through the promotion and/or development of solutions that could be available as Open Source, i.e., without payment of any license.

As part of the OSS-oriented strategy, INOV already encourages the internal use of such solutions in order to acquire profound knowledge in various areas and applications, such as Linux OS, CRM solutions, tools & packages (OpenOffice), and so on.

In this area INOV offers consulting services, e.g., support for adopting OSS solutions through the definition of migration plans, advanced training in Linux and other OSS tools, and adaptation of existing solutions to specific organisation needs.
