On July 4, during the 2024 Science Meeting held at Alfândega do Porto, Professor José Tribolet, founder of INESC, was awarded the Medal of Scientific Merit in a ceremony that honored eight personalities linked to scientific research.

In the thanks he shared with the various institutes, Professor Tribolet said that he accepted this distinction “on behalf of all the researchers and other INESC collaborators who, since 1980, have produced Science, Technology and Advanced Services, making an outstanding contribution to Portugal’s progress, both in the international framework and in the various national contexts of greater relevance”.

In the words of Professor Arlindo Oliveira, INESC’s current President, this medal “recognizes the importance of Professor José Tribolet in the development of science and research in Portugal, from the beginning of the 1980s to the present day, who has contributed greatly to the institution that INESC is today”.
